South Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Society (MCBIOS) Conference. Bioinformatics was largely born as a field through the need to analyze and understand sequence data. Partly as a result of ultra- high- throughput sequencing technology, the field has seen a strong resurgence recently with new computational methods being developed and applied to downstream applications such as the identification of human mutations . In these proceedings, several new methods and applications are reported. Christopher Bottoms et al. Work reported by Markovets and colleagues on identifying promoter regions showed that a new neural network- based algorithm outperformed the method of stress- induced duplex destabilization . Smits and Ouverney present a software system that assists users in analyzing sequence data to find phylogenetic trees, while avoiding pitfalls associated with this process as commonly practiced . The evidence suggests that different evolutionary rules may apply to recent divergences than to those linked to distant speciation events . Two gene sets were found, each specific to one disease form which showed significant functional differences . Using next generation sequencing of c. DNAs from a multi- tissue library, they generated ESTs which were pipelined into a unigene database and made publicly available at a searchable website . The conserved gene evolution indicated that the study in the model species can be translational to human disease studies. Computational analysis and prediction of these structures is challenging, to say the least, and an active area of recent bioinformatics interest . Computational simulations are critical for testing proposed solutions, as well as in rationally engineering more specific binding/activity for drug candidates. To better understand and improve of the creation of anti- inflammatory drugs through inhibition of lipoxygenase, an essential enzyme in the inflammatory pathway, Shuju Bai et al. A mixed reality surgical simulator with a VICON motion tracking system, developed for the rasping procedure in artificial cervical disc replacement surgeries is described by Tansel Halic et al., which can serve as an important training and practice tool for surgeons . The potential of using hydrogen deuterium exchange (HDX) mass spectrometry for analyzing enzymes that degrade cell walls is explored by Uzuner et al. They report that the HDX mass spectrometry can be a powerful tool for exploring the molecular mechanisms of enzyme functions. Sinan Kockara et al . Kockara et al compared density based clustering and Fuzzy C- Means clustering algorithms for border detection in dermoscopy images finding that density based clustering performed best with a low border error, high precision and recall; however, the Fuzzy C- Means clustering algorithm had poor performance especially in border detection. Mete et al proposed two new methods, boundary driven density based clustering based algorithms which performed better delineation with noisy images and an active contour model that gave the best detection with optimum parameters. Colonial Notes. Continental Currency May 1. Choice Extremely Fine. A nice example of the popular One Dollar denomination, which was used in only four of the eleven Continental issues. Sold for: $3. 68. A very nice example from the first Continental issue. Both signatures are strong, the vignette is sharp, and the note has a very pleasing overall appearance. Sold for: $4. 20. A good- looking example for the grade. Sold for: $9. 2. 0. A well signed, totally crisp example that would be a full Gem with just a bit more margin at the top and right. This denomination and issue has left little room for the signatures, causing one of the signers to write his name in the design. Sold for: $5. 10. Well circulated but problem free. Sold for: $9. 6. 0. Tightly margined on two sides and with a little surface soil, but fully uncirculated and well signed. Sold for: $2. 87. Tightly margined but well signed and new save for a light center fold. Sold for: $2. 30. The signatures remain strong, and the note is quite a decent example for the grade. An affordable Continental. Sold for: $8. 0. 5. A very nice looking example, with decent margins and a strong signature. Fractional Continentals have always been hard to find in nice grade, and this one should satisfy any collector of high- end circulated notes. Sold for: $2. 53. This boldly printed, well signed Fractional Continental would grade higher if it were not for a scattering of light stains. Sold for: $1. 72. A single extremely light fold is all that holds this pretty Fractional Continental from the Choice New grade. Sold for: $2. 30. A gorgeous Fractional Continental with a bold signature and no problems of any kind. It's very well margined all around on both sides. A lightly circulated but lovely example of a Fractional Continental, boldly printed on both sides and well signed. Sold for: $2. 64. Broadly margined and well signed. Sold for: $1. 49. Attractive and well margined. Sold for: $2. 70. Signed in red by Benjamin Levy, who had long been considered one of the two Jewish signers of Continental Currency. The note has a razor sharp vignette and a strong nature print, and is from what we consider to be an extremely underrated issue. A spectacular note, with excellent margins, bold print quality, vivid signatures and tremendous eye appeal. This is one of the scarcest issues of Colonial Currency, particularly in high grade. In our 3. 0+ sales, we've handled only eight uncirculated examples from this issue for all denominations, and this is the first we've ever called Gem. Woman Loses Ducks, Causes Two- Car Wreck. A Pennsylvania woman has been cited with summary disorderly conduct for losing her ducks, which made their way into traffic and caused a wreck. I’m not exactly sure what the state determines to be a lawfully binding way of locking up your ducks, but apparently you can get into legitimate trouble if you aren’t sure either. Here’s the report from Pennlive. Nicole Wiest of Washington Township was cited for summary disorderly conduct after the quackers got onto South Crossroads Road and caused an auto accident at 8 p. Wednesday, state Trooper Anthony Chomiszewski III reported Monday. He said the ducks were able to get to the road because they “were not properly contained.” No one was injured in the two- vehicle crash. Countryside Daily claims that keeping ducks in a suburban residence is actually ideal over herding chickens. To properly contain them, you need a lot of space for them to roam around in, which means a lot of deer fencing or poultry fencing. If you’ve got adorable little baby ducklings, a kiddie pool wrapped in poultry fencing should also do the job. Steam (software) - Wikipedia. Steam is a digital distribution platform developed by Valve Corporation, which offers digital rights management (DRM), multiplayer gaming, video streaming and social networking services. Steam provides the user with installation and automatic updating of games on multiple computers, and community features such as friends lists and groups, cloud saving, and in- game voice and chat functionality. The software provides a freely available application programming interface (API) called Steamworks, which developers can use to integrate many of Steam's functions into their products, including networking, matchmaking, in- game achievements, micro- transactions, and support for user- created content through Steam Workshop. Though initially developed for use on Microsoft Windowsoperating systems, versions for OS X and Linux were later released. Mobile apps with connected functionality with the main software were later released for i. OS, Android, and Windows Phone devices in the 2. With an update to the Steamworks SDK in March 2. Valve added its . The CEG technology creates a unique, encrypted copy of the game's executable files for the given user which allows them to install it multiple times and on multiple devices, and make backup copies of their software. Normally this is done while connected to the Internet following the user's credential validation, but once they have logged into Steam once, a user can instruct Steam to launch in a special offline mode to be able to play their games without a network connection. Users can disable this feature on a per- game and per- account basis. Steam also offers a framework for selling and distributing downloadable content (DLC) for games. Authorized players can install the game locally and play it separately from the owning account. Users can access their saved games and achievements providing the main owner is not playing. Game licenses can be given to other accounts under certain conditions. Content is delivered from an international network of servers using a proprietary file transfer protocol. Since 2. 01. 0, the Steam Translation Server project offers Steam users to assist with the translation of the Steam client, storefront, and a selected library of Steam games for twenty- seven languages. In February 2. 01. Steam began to open similar options for in- game item purchases for third- party games. The keys are sold by third- party providers such as Humble Bundle (in which a portion of the sale is given back to the publisher or distributor), distributed as part of a physical release to redeem the game, or given to a user as part of promotions, often used to deliver Kickstarter and other crowd funding rewards. There has been a grey market around Steam keys, where less reputable buyers purchase a large number of Steam keys for a game when it is offered for a low cost, and then resell these keys to users or other third- party sites at a higher price, generating profit for themselves. Other users can subsequently rate these reviews as helpful, humorous, or otherwise unhelpful, which are then used to highlight the most useful reviews on the game's Steam store page. Steam will also aggregate these reviews and enable users to sort products based on this feedback while browsing the store. Later that year, Valve added the ability to trade in- game items and . Valve announced that it will allow developers to set up their own sales for their titles independent of any sales that Valve may set for titles. This program allows developers to release functional but yet- incomplete products such as beta versions to the service to allow users to buy the titles and help provide testing and feedback towards the final production. Early access also helps to provide funding to the developers to help complete their titles. Depending on the title, new levels, art assets, gameplay modifications, or other content may be published to or installed from the Steam Workshop through an automated, online account- based process. The Workshop was originally used for distribution of new items for Team Fortress 2. It features additional authentication security that allows teachers to share and distribute content via a Steam Workshop- type interface but blocks access from students. Project Zomboid on Steam. Why Early Access? It has grown massively over the years, and it’s been a rollercoaster, but we find ourselves in a stable financial situation with an overwhelmingly positive reaction from the Steam community. We hope you will join us, but if not we understand. If you're not ready to jump in yet, then please consider us when we break out of Early Access. These detail what we've been up to during the week, often with sneak peeks of upcoming features, interviews, videos and all that goodness. We've had an unbroken chain of Mondoids for a long time now, and plan to continue them as long as Project Zomboid is developed. We also communicate with our community directly on our own forums and Steam forums, often with changelists for upcoming builds. How often do we update? We have a reputation that seems to diverge greatly when it comes to update frequency depending on who you ask. Many consider our game frequently updated, some consider us slow. In recent times it’s rare we don’t have a release within a month (including beta releases), and these always contain new gameplay features or major tweaks to the gameplay. Some features, particularly NPCs, have taken a long time to implement. This is largely out of our commitment to getting the features right and them not disappointing on release, but it should be noted that we make no apology for delaying their release until we feel they would be enjoyed, live up to people’s expectations, and most importantly do not have a detrimental effect on the gameplay or stability of the game. We will admit to a few long waits between updates in the past, but we feel from community feedback that the majority of our customers are very satisfied with the development of the game. It should be pointed out too that the game has significant modding support, with map editors and full unrestricted lua modding access. We have a vibrant modding community that can help plug the gap between updates. It should also be taken into consideration that the game is already very far through development, to the point where we now have 1. There is a lot of content to enjoy in the game already and we firmly and proudly believe it worth its current price as it stands. Please consider reading some reviews if you are still unsure about the content of the game or the release frequency. Details of major milestones can be found below. What is required for 1. Two major features are yet to be implemented into the game, both of which are currently in full- time development each with dedicated full- time developer support. These are: NPCS - A far reaching and in- depth NPC system with character relationships, personalities, and an emergent story engine that allows for diverse and emergent character based zombie survival story unique to every playthrough. This also includes the tutorial, a return of Kate and Baldspot who starred in the early alphas of the game. Vehicles - Fully physics modelled 3. D vehicles, siphoning petrol, mechanics skills. Several features require either significant modifications, rewrites or completion before we could consider 1. Map completion - We still have a major city, an army base, more wilderness, and several small towns to implement to the game map. UI Rewrite - The UI isn’t perfect by any stretch. We would like to get a more intuitive and ergonomic UI system implemented. Stealth / Combat - New animations to allow for stealth mechanics (looking round corners, crouching behind walls, cover etc) as well as a rewrite of the combat system to leverage new animations to make combat more involved, intuitive and fluid. We want to have all this in the can this year. However, we tend to avoid ETAs because Early Access development in particular is often filled with unknowns and we want to ensure we get these highly anticipated features right. In the meantime however we will continue to update the game and provide new features for our community to play with. One of our developers full time responsibility is providing frequent and new items, crafting recipes, skills and survival gameplay elements to fill out any holes in gameplay, and provide frequent feature rich game updates in line with community feedback, while the other developers focus on finishing these specific remaining major features. What about after 1. At this point, once we feel we have fulfilled every promise we gave when the Project Zomboid site first launched (except the last one, ahem, ignore that. Absolutely no one wanted that, it turned out), as well as the extra things detailed above, and the game is sufficiently polished and bug free, we will launch the game as 1. Early Access. What happens at this point depends entirely on whether the game is making money or not, but given the past solid performance of the game we see no reason why it shouldn’t be. Several developers within the team will likely start exploring our second project at this point, however we have dedicated and passionate developers who were brought into the company via the Project Zomboid modding community, emotionally invested in the game, who are already a big part of the development and communicating with the community. As long as Project Zomboid is making enough to support their continued development of the game, and they are happy to continue working on it (which seems likely), we will continue making Project Zomboid indefinitely as long as there is interest. That all said, we can’t make any solid promises beyond the 1. Truth be told, given that it was Zomboid that put the money in the bank in the first place, as long as our company is secure and we can fund any other project's development comfortably, it's very probable we'd be willing to put some money back into the game beyond the point it's sustaining itself if there are any features in particular we can't bear to leave out of the game. Words are wind though, and all we can do is guess where we'll all be by then. We really want to keep this train going as long as we can though, as long as it continues to the benefit of the game. At which point the modders will hopefully take the mantle with almost unlimited access to the game's core. Development Costs. Here we hope to give you a better idea of how the sales revenue from Project Zomboid will support development of the game. While we will keep particular developers salaries confidential, we would like to offer a breakdown of developer and office locations, along with the average rent costs, reported on http: //www. Indie Stone offices, along with each developer's location to give you an idea of relative studio costs. It's become clear to us recently how significantly this factors into Early Access games chance of continuing development and we hope others will follow suit in divulging this information. All percentages are in comparison to New York City (1. Other examples would be San Francisco (9. London (9. 3. 8. 1%), Moscow (5. Delhi (9. 5. 3%). The lower the % the further your purchase of an Early Access game will go to fund development (or more crucially how long that money will last), as accommodation costs correlate pretty closely with expected salaries and costs of living and working in that location. This does not include sales or other promotions. What if PZ stopped making any money tomorrow? The Indie Stone have made sufficient sales since launch on Early Access to ensure that if the game stopped selling any copies tomorrow, the entire PZ dev team could carry on funded development as at present, with no reduction in workforce, for at least the next two years, potentially longer. This would not be an ideal situation for us, of course, but we are committed to finishing every major planned feature before we consider moving the game to 1. Considering the financial situation we are in at present, the chances we will not be able to fund the remaining development of the game are quite small. In the worst (and least likely) possible of financial cases that required the disbandment of all paid developers of the game, 4 of the listed developers are directors of The Indie Stone with an invested interest in the success of the game and company, who would cut their income significantly and/or supplement development of the game with other work to get through any financial difficulties. Despite this no doubt causing progress to slow significantly, the 4 directors hold all required skills to continue development of the game during this nightmare scenario.”. Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access? Due to our commitment to making sure early adopters get the cheapest price in appreciation of their early support, we will never appear on bundles, or in sales that take it to or below the original alpha price of . This commitment also means that, until 1. How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process? |
